The databases for the TIMSS (Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study) and ICILS (International Computer and Information Literacy Study) international studies are now available for consultation on the IEA (International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement) website. These data allow an in-depth analysis of the performance of Portuguese students and those from other countries in key areas such as Mathematics, Science and Digital Literacy. They provide fundamental information for defining and improving educational policies.

TIMSS is carried out every four years and assesses the performance of 4th and 8th grade students in Mathematics and Science. Portugal took part in the 4th grade assessment for the fifth time and the 8th grade for the third time. The TIMSS 2023 results showed a worrying drop in Portuguese students' performance in mathematics and science, especially in 8th grade.

ICILS assesses 8th grade students' digital competences essential for living and working in modern societies. This study aims to determine whether young people are prepared to use computers to research, create, communicate and participate in digital environments. Portugal took part in ICILS for the first time in 2018. It took part again in the 2023 edition, where, for the first time in an international literacy study, Portuguese students reached the top five in Europe.
