ED_ON is a public information program aimed at everyone with an interest in education. Education Initiative uses ED_ON to promote scientific knowledge about education: articles and reviews of statistical and multimedia publications that are curated by reputable scholars and made available in an intuitive and open access portal available at iniciativaeducacao.org.

Goals

ED_ON aims to fight the shortage of objective and science-based information about education - fundamental to everyone, young or old, who wants to reason and reflect about education in a modern and open fashion.

Methodology

ED_ON will gather and publish information about three key topics:

  • cognitive psychology and learning: what we know about the learning processes, and how to apply this knowledge in schools and other learning environments

  • economics of education: the study of various measurable issues related to education, such as the impact of class size in learning outcomes

  • statistics about education: a selection of statistics that improve our knowledge of the education system

School Year 2024/2025

In the 2024/2025 school year, the production of scientific dissemination content has remained the main focus of the ED_ON program. As of July 2024, 28 articles, 2 videos had been published.

The ED_ON program has developed several partnerships to produce and curate content. These partners, mostly international, share with Iniciativa Educação a commitment to promoting a scientific culture and an approach to topics anchored in the best available information. By leveraging these partnerships, ED_ON seeks to provide access to specialists and publications usually inaccessible to the Portuguese public.

In the 2024/2025 school year, a new partnership was developed with Jamie Clark Educational, an initiative promoting teaching practices based on the latest scientific research. This collaboration established an agreement for the translation and dissemination of infographics and practical guides for teachers.

There was also a significant investment in the continuity and deepening of partnerships established in previous years. Among these, the most significant in the 2024/2025 school year were the partnerships with the CSEN — Conseil scientifique de l’éducation nationale (the French Scientific Council for Education) and The Learning Scientists group, due to the contents they generated, which greatly contributed to enriching the program’s article collection.
